Cognitive science students are in the lucky position to be in a study program that has its own Student body (german: “Fachschaft”) rather than to share it with others from the same faculty. Together with the Mentoring Team, we take care of everything to make your studies — well — more comfortable.
Who we are…
Awesome news: If you are a Coxi you are part of Student Body already. If you have any issue or a new ideas, want to plan anything or just want to hang out with cool Cogscis, just join us at one of our regular meetings. If you want to start getting involved into uni politics, the student body is always a good way to start
There is an official part of the student body called FSR (Fachschaftsrat), those people are annually elected (in January) by all CogScis and represent CogSci officially.
What we do…
One could divide our work into three chunks:
Our first commitment is to help students. The Student Body deals explicitly with issues between students and teacher/professor (personal or course-related), whereas the mentoring team supports you in your individual studies.
Our second task is to ensure the quality of our study program: We have representatives in numerous boards: professor election commissions, the board of director of the IKW, examination board, study commission (StuKo) and more. Through those representatives we can influence numerous things, like who our new professors will be or which courses can be assigned to which module as well as opening new external course for our CogSci program.
Last but not least the fun part – organizing social student activities. We plan larger events like the Freshie week, the weekend trip to the Ludo castle, as well as smaller activities like our annual winter/christmas party (the SnowBall) or creating stickers and merch.
The power of the student body and the amount of fun activities depends on the motivation and commitment of all Coxis. The more people become active (join the meetings) the greater the possibilities.
