What is Cognitive Science?
Cognitive Science is a vibrant field exploring cognition – how we think, learn, and interact with the world. Our program brings together nine core fields:
- Mathematics
- Informatics
- Neuroscience
- Cognitive (Neuro-) Psychology
- (Computational) Linguistics
- Artificial Intelligence
- Philosophy for CogSci
- Methods of CogSci
- Neuroinformatics
Program Structure
Our Bachelor’s program is designed to provide a solid foundation in these diverse disciplines and equip you with the skills to tackle complex cognitive phenomena.
You’ll complete:
- Compulsory modules in all nine fields.
- Five optional compulsory modules, allowing you to delve deeper into the areas that pique your interest.
- One optional module, offering further specialization or exploration of related fields
- An oral cross-module exam to demonstrate your comprehensive understanding.
- A thesis in your final semester, allowing you to apply your knowledge to an independent research project.
You also have to:
- Spent some time abroad
- collect 10 VP-hours
But there is more to a “successful Bachelors”
- learning how to navigate the uni environment
- meeting new people

First Year Courses
Your first year will lay the groundwork for your Cognitive Science journey with courses like:

- Introduction to Programming OR Informatics for Applied Sciences
- Mathematics for Applied Sciences OR Mathematics for Cognitive Science (in the summer semester)
- Foundations of Cognitive Science
